Karimloo played opposite Sierra Boggess, who starred as Christine in the West End production, which ran Oct. 1-2 and was filmed for release on DVD and Blu-Ray. Karimloo and Boggess, who originated the same roles in Lloyd Webber's Phantom sequel, Love Never Dies, have also previously played the parts in Phantom in London and Las Vegas, respectively.
Featuring a 200-strong company and orchestra, Phantom featured Barry James as Monsieur Firman, Gareth Snook as Monsieur André, Liz Robertson as Madame Giry and Wynne Evans as Piangi. Produced by Cameron Mackintosh, the production was directed by Laurence Connor with musical staging and choreography by Gillian Lynne.
The Phantom of the Opera “tells the story of a masked figure who lurks beneath the catacombs of the Paris Opera House, exercising a reign of terror over all who inhabit it,” according to production notes. “He falls madly in love with an innocent young soprano, Christine, and devotes himself to creating a new star by nurturing her extraordinary talents and by employing all of the devious methods at his command.”
