The segment takes viewers backstage at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre, where The Book of Mormon opened to raves in March. Cast members including Tony nominees Josh Gad, Andrew Rannells and Rory O’Malley as well as Tony winner Nikki M. James are interviewed.
"60 Minutes" also visits the South Park Studios, to give a behind-the-scenes look at the Emmy-winning series, now in its 15th season. "60 Minutes" airs in the New York metropolitan area on WCBS-TV, Channel 2 at 7 PM.
Parker and Stone authored the Tony-winning hit musical with Avenue Q songwriter Robert Lopez. The Book of Mormon earned Tony Awards for Best Book, Best Score and Best Musical. Co-directed by Parker and Casey Nicholaw, The Book of Mormon began previews Feb. 24 and opened to critical acclaim March 24.
The Book of Mormon also picked up Tony Awards for Best Direction (Parker and co-director/choreographer Nicholaw), Best Performance by a Featured Actress (Nikki M. James), Best Orchestrations (Larry Hochman and Stephen Oremus), Best Scenic Design (Scott Pask), Best Sound Design (Brian Ronan) and Best Lighting Design (Brian MacDevitt).
