Directed by Julie Taymor, The Lion King has won over 30 major awards including six Tony Awards, eight Drama Desk Awards, six Outer Critics Circle Awards, two Oliviers, the Evening Standard Award for Best Theatrical Event, and three Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Awards. The Broadway production, which opened in 1997, continues at the Minskoff Theatre.
