Stage Adaptation of A Charlie Brown Christmas to Play Chicago This Winter | Playbill

News Stage Adaptation of A Charlie Brown Christmas to Play Chicago This Winter Chicago's Broadway Playhouse will stage A Charlie Brown Christmas, based on the popular television series by Bill Melendez and Lee Mendelson, this holiday season. The Peanuts gang will once again get together to celebrate the true meaning of Christmas.

Presented by Emerald City Theatre, A Charlie Brown Christmas is adapted for the stage by Eric Schaeffer. Performances are set to run Nov. 14-Jan. 3, 2016. Charlie Brown is the star and central character of the long-running and well-known comic strip "Peanuts," created by Charles M. Schulz in the 1950's. Brown is comically portrayed as continuously down on his luck, and often accompanied by his loyal companion and pet dog, Snoopy. The television special "A Charlie Brown Christmas" first aired on CBS in 1965.

Emerald City's production joins other stage adaptations of the cartoon including the Tony-winning Broadway musical You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown and Bert V. Royal's Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead, the unauthorized parody in which the Peanuts characters are portrayed as having reached adolescence and all of its excruciating growing pains.
