The Society of London Theatre (SOLT) has announced that Cameron Mackintosh-produced musicals will offer special headphones for those with partial sight or blindness by the end of the year.
Those productions taking part are My Fair Lady, The Phantom of the Opera and Les Misérables. A company called Vocaleyes will provide the equipment, which will offer an introduction to the shows as well as commentary on the sets, costume and action onstage.
The performances will take place on October 2 (My Fair Lady), November 2 (The Phantom of the Opera) and December 3 (Les Misérables).
This technology represents a significant step forward in providing assistance to (partially) disabled theatregoers. Further details will be available later in the year.
