The six-person production will have opened and closed prior to the official opening of the big-budget Broadway musical Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark. For the record, Spider-Man (the now-infamous Julie Taymor-Bono-The Edge collaboration) has again delayed its opening and has assembled a fresh creative team.
Spidermann, which debuted in Seattle in late January, will play the Tank March 13 and 14. The team behind Spidermann bills it as being "thrown together in less than a month, at 0.0000092% the budget [of Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark] and with a $5 ticket price."
Montana von Fliss directs the musical that makes use of pop tunes and the press surrounding the Broadway production of Spider-Man to tell its own story of Peter "Parkre."
According to its creators, Spidermann "creates a brand new mythology of the well-worn superhero story while still referencing elements of the original comic book and the Broadway debacle. Featuring the characters Spidermann, Peter Parkre, Mary Jane Taymor, Radioactive Steve Winwood, and more."
The cast and creators include Jose Bold (as Spidermann) and Kirk Anderson (as Peter Parkre), as well as Erin Jorgensen and Sara Edwards (both as Mary Jane Taymor), Mark Siano (as Radioactive Steve Winwood) and Evan Mosher (as Everyone Else). Performances will take place March 13 at 9:30 PM; and March 14 at 7:30 and 9:30 PM. For tickets, visit TheTankNYC.org/Theater. The Tank is located at 354 W. 45th Street between 8th and 9th Avenues.
