Lincoln Center Theater’s LCT3 launches its Spotlight Series August 2 with SHABASH!, a co-presentation with Hypokrit Theatre Company’s Tamasha highlighting new music and comedy from artists of South Asian descent.
Kicking off with a pre-show rooftop happy hour—to the sounds of DJ RuBot—performances play August 2, 3, and 4 only. Community's Danny Pudi and Outsourced star (and recurring character on Crazy Ex-Girlfriend) Parvesh Cheena host.
SHABASH!, directed by Zi Alikhan with music direction by Annastasia Victory, features Nick Choksi (Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812), Angel Desai (An Ordinary Muslim, Company), Meetu Chilana (Monsoon Wedding), Deepali Gupta (Pay No Attention to the Girl), Alingon Mitra (The Daily Show with Trevor Noah, Adam Ruins Everything), Kamala Sankaram (Thumbprint), Jahn Sood (The Disappearing Man), Kuhoo Verma (Monsoon Wedding), and songs from Monsoon Wedding (by Vishal Bhardwaj, Masi Asare, and Susan Birkenhead) and the band Bombay Rickey. Zahra Ali joins as a special guest for the opening performance.
The presentation continues LCT3’s mission to produce work of new artists and reach new audiences under Artistic Director Evan Cabnet. Hypokrit Theatre Company’s Tamasha is the only festival dedicated to South Asian artists in North America and seeks to raise the profile of performers and creators across theatre, dance, music, spoken word, and comedy.
