Full casting has been revealed for Manhattan Theatre Club's upcoming Broadway production of Amy Herzog's Mary Jane, set to take the stage at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre beginning April 2 ahead of an April 23 opening night. As previously announced, Rachel McAdams will lead the cast in the title role, with Anne Kauffman at the helm.
Joining her will be April Matthis as Sherry and Dr. Toros, Susan Pourfar as Brianne and Chaya, Lily Santiago as Amelia and Kat, and Brenda Wehle as Ruthie and Tenkei. Casting is by Kelly Gillespie of Caparelliotis Casting.
The new play from the Pulitzer finalist follows a single mom raising a child battling a difficult illness and the community of women around her that become a makeshift family. The work made its world premiere at Yale Repertory in 2017 with Kauffman directing, moving Off-Broadway to New York Theatre Workshop the same year. Wehle is reprising her performance from the Off-Broadway bow.
The Broadway staging will feature set design by Lael Jellinek, costume design by Brenda Abbandandolo, lighting design by Ben Stanton, sound design by Leah Gelpe, and hair, wig, and make-up design by J. Jared Janas. Narda E. Alcorn will be production stage manager, and Kate Wilson will serve as vocal coach. Jellinek, Gelpe, and Janas previously worked on the Off-Broadway run.
Manhattan Theatre Club is currently presenting the Broadway debut of Joshua Harmon's Prayer for the French Republic. The extended production continues through March 3 at the Friedman.
