Among Ars Nova’s playwright and librettist alumni who took part were Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hamilton), Annie Baker (The Flick), Steven Levenson (Dear Evan Hansen), Stephen Karam (The Humans), Kyle Jarrow (The SpongeBob Musical), Amy Herzog (4000 Miles), Bess Wohl (Small Mouth Sounds), and others, including Sofia Alvarez, Sarah Burgess, Sarah DeLappe, Sarah Gancher, Nick Jones, Jon Kern, Michael Mitnick, Antoinette Nwandu, Max Posner, and Sharyn Rothstein.
The company is known for taking chances on promising artists early in their careers and ushering them to success. Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812, which eventually opened on Broadway, originated there.
Proceeds from the evening support Ars Nova’s artistic development initiatives and world-premiere programming.
A new scholarship will send three young writers to the 2026 International Thespian Festival to work directly with Playbill on coverage of the week-long event.
