Emmy, Golden Globe, and SAG Award winner Sarah Paulson will make a Broadway return in Branden Jacobs-Jenkins' Appropriate, set to play the Hayes Theater via Second Stage beginning November 28. Opening night is December 18. As previously announced, the upcoming production will mark Jacobs-Jenkins' Broadway playwriting debut, following a credit in 2022 for contributing additional material to Lincoln Center Theater's revival of Thornton Wilder's The Skin of Our Teeth. Lila Neugebauer is directing.
The work centers on a white family who, while closing out the estate of their late father, discover some disturbing artifacts that force them to confront their family's past. The play was previously produced in 2014 Off-Broadway at Signature Theatre. Additional casting and creative team members for the Broadway bow are to be announced.
The performance will be Paulson's first NY stage appearance since Roundabout Theatre Company's 2013 Off-Broadway production of Talley's Folly. Paulson's previous Broadway credits include Collected Stories and The Glass Menagerie.
Second Stage's upcoming season also includes Jen Silverman's Spain, beginning Off-Broadway in November; and an untitled new work from Pulitzer winner Paula Vogel, bowing in 2024 at the Hayes on Broadway.
