The London debut will begin previews Jan. 22, 2004, before officially opening Feb. 3 for a run through March 4. The Goat will be directed by Anthony Page with designs by Hildegard Bechtler. Kate Fahy and Matthew Marsh are also featured in the cast.
The Goat concerns an happily married architect (Pryce) suffering from a mid life crisis who holds a secret that could do him considerable harm if revealed. The controversial family drama explores societal limits. The work received the 2002 Tony Award for Best Play.
Pryce, who will make his Almeida debut in the staging, recently starred in the London production of My Fair Lady as Henry Higgins and won Tony nods for originating the role of The Engineer in Miss Saigon and Comedians. The actor also appeared as Juan Peron in the moviemusical "Evita." Other film credits include "Glengarry Glen Ross," "Brazil," "Barbarians at the Gate," "Tomorrow Never Dies" and "Stigmata."
The Goat opened on Broadway in March 2002 with original cast Bill Pullman and Mercedes Ruehl. The second cast was led by Sally Field, in her Broadway debut, and Bill Irwin.
