South African actor Sello Maake ka Ncube (Othello) is a newcomer to the RSC but was previously seen in London in Gregory Doran's production of Titus Andronicus and as Mufasa in Disney's The Lion King. His Titus co-star, Anthony Sher, an RSC stalwart, plays Iago.
Doran directs, making this his fourth RSC London transfer of the year so far. The others were the Judi Dench All's Well That Ends Well, The Taming of the Shrew and The Tamer Tamed. Designs and costumes are by Stephen Brimson Lewis, lighting by Tim Mitchell. Music is supplied by Adrian Lee with sound by Martin Slavin. The fight director is Terry King.
As well as Ncube and Sher, Critics' Circle Best Newcomer Award winner Lisa Dillon plays Desdemona. The cast also includes Charles Abomeli, Barry Aird, Nathalie Armin, Justin Avoth, Ken Bones, Peter Bramhill, Vincent Brimble, Edward Clayton, Jonathan Duff, Viss Elliot, Amanda Harris, Mark Lokyer, Paul O'Mahoney and Clifford Rose.
Ticket prices at Trafalgar Studios seem to be on a par with most West End venues. There are seats available at £36, £30 and £20.
