Unlike many other leading London theatres, the Royal Court is hanging on to its Artistic Director. Ian Rickson has just announced a three year extension to his contract with the Royal Court, which would otherwise have expired in April this year.
Under Rickson's leadership the Royal Court has been extensively refurbished, and is now one of the most comfortable auditoriums in London, with seats that put many other playhouses to shame.
The quality of productions at the Royal Court have also been consistently high: this has been the case with the studio as well as the main house and Grae Clough's gay play F***ing Games won two Oliviers last week. Peter Gill's play The York Realist, which was in the larger auditorium, transfers to the Strand Theatre on March 8.
