Rory O'Malley is cast to lead the upcoming ABC comedy Josep, opposite stand-up comedian Jo Koy, according to Deadline. The show follows Koy as the title character, a recently divorced Filipino American nurse attempting to navigate the hardships of life and his "very Filipino" mother.
Tony nominee O’Malley will play Seth, the husband of Jo's sister. He is described as a man who "loves his Filipino wife and her family so much he has embraced all parts of their culture and now acts more Filipino than Jo does."
O'Malley starred on Broadway in the 11-time Tony Award-winning musical Hamilton as King George III. He is currently reprising his role for the Los Angeles production at Pantages Theater, opposite Taylor Iman Jones, Rubén J. Carbajal, and Joanna A. Jones until March 20.
He also starred in the original Broadway cast of The Book of Mormon as Elder McKinley. Prior to this on-screen role, he voiced characters in the television animated series South Park, Central Park, and Chicago Party Aunt.
Writing and executive producing Josep is Steve Joe, Randall Park, and Michael Golamco. Additional co-executive producers include Koy, Kourtney Kang, Jake Kasdan, Melvin Mar, and Hieu Ho.
