Rogers: The Musical began as a comedic sequence in Marvel's Hawkeye TV show on Disney+. Shaiman and Wittman wrote one song: "Save the City," which appeared as a musical sequence in the first episode of Hawkeye, for the fictional musical Rogers, chronicling the life of Steve Rogers, the first Captain America. The song was so popular with Marvel and musical fans that at D23, Disney's annual convention, in 2022, that the company had a live performance of "Save the City," with full costumes and choreography.

Transformed into a full one-act show, Rogers: The Musical comes to life through the creativity of Disney Live Entertainment in partnership with book writer Hunter Bell (star and book writer of the Tony Award-nominated [title of show]) and features five all-new songs with music by Grammy-winning composer Christopher Lennertz and lyrics by Jordan Peterson, Lennertz, and Alex Karukas. The musical also features "Save the City" and “Star Spangled Man” from the film Captain America: The First Avenger (the latter written by Alan Menken and David Zippel).
