Ricky Martin, a former member of the rock group Menudo and a platinum-selling Latin-American solo singer, will join the Broadway cast of Les Miserables as Marius June 24 to Sept. 8.
Along with three albums for Sony Music, and a sold-out March 30 performance at New York's Radio City Music Hall, Martin will also be familiar to fans of the ABC-TV soap General Hospital, on which he has been a featured player.
The Puerto Rico-born singer expressed his desire to appear on Broadway in a Miami newspaper interview, which reportedly brought him to the attention of Les Miz executive producer Richard Jay-Alexander.
As the idealistic student revolutionary Marius, Martin will sing the numbers "Empty Chairs at Empty Tables" and "A Heart Full of Love."
