Scottish actor/comedian Richard Gadd has won the Edinburgh Fringe comedy award with Monkey See Monkey Do, a show that walks the line between standup and solo show.

Though presented as a multimedia comedy, Monkey See Monkey Do deals with a sexual assault Gadd experienced in 2012. He performs the show while running on a treadmill, trying to escape a figure in a gorilla suit.

Gadd was quoted in Britain's The Guardian as saying, “The worst thing that experience [of assault] did was take my confidence away from me. Maybe this award will help me bring it back.”

The production is headed to the Soho Theatre in London, where it begins performances October 18.

Gadd appeared in the films Confused (2005), Vicious (2013) and Tripped (2015) and premiered his previous “high-concept black comedy,” Waiting for Gaddot, onstage in 2015.
