Signature Theatre has announced a two-week extension for the Off-Broadway revival of Stephen Adly Guirgis’ 2000 play Jesus Hopped the ‘A’ Train. The prison drama opened to positive reviews from critics October 23, and will now play through November 26 in the Signature’s Irene Diamond Stage.

The production, directed by Mark Brokaw, marks the first time the play has been seen in New York City since its critically acclaimed debut 17 years ago. Performances began October 5.

Set inside Rikers Island, Jesus Hopped the ‘A’ Train follows Angel Cruz, a 30-year-old bicycle messenger awaiting trial for the death of the leader of a religious cult. Inside prison, Angel is befriended by a charismatic serial killer named Lucius Jenkins, a born-again believer who will change the course of Angel’s life forever.

The cast is made up of Sean Carvajal as Angel, Edi Gathegi, Ricardo Chavira, Erick Betancourt, and Stephanie DiMaggio.
