Andrew J. Robinson (Side Man) directs the Playhouse's 2007 season opener, which began previews Jan. 12 for a run through Feb. 18. Set in 1971 at the North Carolina military base Camp Lejeune that is "rife with racial unease," the play finds "a white officer [who] invites a black officer to his home to discuss the building tensions."
Kilner (Dinner with Friends - Geffen Playhouse) stars as Colonel Littlefield opposite Baker (Suddenly Last Summer) as Margaret Littlefield. Dennis Flanagan ("Charmed") also appears as Private Davis, Robert Manning, Jr. (Joe Fearless - Atlantic Theatre) as Captain Lee King, Leo Marks (Dead End - Ahmanson Theatre) as Chaplain White and Joel Polis (The Cherry Orchard - Mark Taper Forum).
The design team for Defiance features John Iacovelii (scenic), Maggie Morgan (costume) and Paulie Jenkins (lighting).
The 2007 mainstage lineup scheduled for the company will continue with Charles Randolph-Wright's Cuttin’ Up (March 9-April 15), W. Somerset Maugham's The Constant Wife (May 4-June 10), Cole Porter's Can Can (June 29 August 5) and Ernest Thompson's On Golden Pond (Aug. 24-Oct. 2).
