News Public Theater Among 54 Theatres Taking Play Submissions This Fall The Play Submissions Helper blog has announced a call-to-action for all playwrights with the news that there are currently 54 playwriting contests with September or fall deadlines.

Among them are New York's Public Theater, calling for full-length submissions from writers who live within 90 minutes of the theatre to join their Emerging Writers Group. "Get your insane list of 54(!!!!) playwriting contests with September+ deadlines now!" the site posted on its Facebook page on Aug. 24. View the submissions listings here

Also featured in the long list are Northern Michigan University, with an open call for full-length comedies with a winning prize of $2,000; the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation fellowship for "mid-career" artists; New York City's Midtown International Theatre Festival; Manhattan Repertory Theatre; the MacDowell Fellowship; and Iowa's Riverside Theatre.

Submission categories vary in play length, genre, location and prizes. For a full, up-to-date listing of over 400 theatres looking for new plays, as well as access to email alerts for new opportunities, playwrights can become full members of Play Submissions Helper.
