After a ten-year hiatus, the hit musicalMamma Mia!is back on the Broadway boards. On August 1, the Winter Garden Theatre hosted more than 120 alumni cast, creatives, and staff from throughout the original Broadway production’s 14-year run at a pre-show reception before attending the invited dress rehearsal. After the show, past and present company members came together for a family photo.
Since premiering in London in 1999 and subsequently on Broadway in 2001, Mamma Mia! has been seen by over 70 million people across the world, and turned into two films. Mamma Mia! premiered on Broadway October 18, 2001, at the Winter Garden Theatre, where it continued through October 19, 2013. The production then transferred to the Broadhurst, playing through September 12, 2015.
The musical is set on the eve of a wedding, as a daughter's quest to discover the identity of her father brings three men from her mother's past back to the Greek island they had last visited 20 years ago. Songs include "Dancing Queen," "The Winner Takes It All," "Money, Money, Money," and "Take a Chance on Me."
