Romy & Michele: The Musical, which began previews Off-Broadway October 14, will officially open at Stage 42 October 28. Get a first look at the world premiere in the photo gallery below.

Kristin Hanggi (Rock of Ages) is directing, and Karla Puno Garcia is choreographing the production. In development for more than a decade and adapted from the cult classic 1997 film Romy and Michele's High School Reunion, the project features a book by the film's screenwriter, Robin Schiff, and music and lyrics by Gwendolyn Sanford and Brandon Jay. Orchestrations, music supervision, and arrangements are by Keith Harrison Dworkin.

Laura Bell Bundy (Legally Blonde) and Kara Lindsay (Newsies) lead the cast as Romy White and Michele Weinberger, respectively, alongside Jordan Kai Burnett as Heather Mooney, Erica Dorfler as Kelly Possenger, Michael Thomas Grant as Sandy Frink, Je'Shaun Jackson as Toby Walters, Pascal Pastrana as Billy Christianson, Lauren Ashley Zakrin as Christie Masters, DeMarius R. Copes as DJ, and Ninako Donville as Lisa. Swings Hannah Florence and Cameron Sirian round out the company. Casting is by ARC's Mark Brandon and Patrick Maravilla.

The musical follows two Valley girls who, eager to impress their former classmates, return to their old stomping grounds a decade later with a lie involving (among other things) Post-Its. Mira Sorvino (currently starring on Broadway in Chicago) and Lisa Kudrow starred in the 1997 film version.

The production also features scenic design by Jason Sherwood, costume design by Tina McCartney, lighting design by Jason Lyons, sound design by Connor Wang, projection design by Caite Hevner, and hair and wig and make-up design by Tommy Kurzman. Sheela Ramesh is music directing, and Amanda M. Stuart serves as production stage manager.

This musical premiered in 2017 at Seattle's 5th Avenue Theatre (also directed by Hanggi), and has since held several developmental workshops in the U.S. and U.K. Barry Kemp, Stephen Soucy, Peter Schneider, and Laurence Mark are producing, with Showtown Productions serving as executive producer.
