Alley artistic director Gregory Boyd helms the production that was adapted by Trevor Nunn and John Caird for the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1982. Peter Pan will run through Oct. 31 on the Hubbard Stage.

The Alley production follows the RSC concept, which interpolates Peter Pan creator Barry as a storyteller to provide a greater context to the familiar tale. According to Boyd, "In doing this, they let the audiences hear for the first time, through the Storyteller’s voice, some of the things Barrie thought about the play, or included in the stage directions. They are some of the most evocative stage directions ever – and their inclusion in the performed play is a great innovation."

Jay Sullivan portrays Peter with Elizabeth Bunch as Wendy and James Black as Mr. Darling/Captain James Hook. The cast also features Katrina Lenk as Mrs. Darling/Slightly, Leraldo Anzaldua as Skylights, Jeffrey Bean as Smee, James Belcher as Cecco, Thomas Brazzle as Alsatian Fogerty, Brian Byrnes as George Scourie/Robt. Mullins, Patrick Damien Earl as Nana/Chay Turley/Bill Jukes, Luis Gonzalez as Nibs/The Crocodile, Dylan Godwin as Tootles, Chris Hutchison as Alf Mason, Julia Krohn as Liza/Curly, Kalob Martinez as Canary Robb, Emily Neves as Michael/Jane, David Rainey as Noodler/Cookson, John Tyson as The Storyteller, Adam Van Wagoner as John and Todd Waite as Gentleman Starkey.

Here's how the Alley describes the play: "'All children grow up, except one.' Peter's sudden arrival into the lives of Wendy, John and Michael is the beginning of a thrilling adventure. Together they embark on a fantastical flight to the Never Land, a magical place of vivid dangers and unsettling beauty. There they meet the Lost Boys, a horde of pirates, and the wickedest villain of all time. This is J. M. Barrie’s rarely produced original fantasy – the inspiration for all other versions – and still, by far, the strangest and best."
