News Pasadena Playhouse Reopens Oct. 12 With Ed Asner's FDR The tour of Ed Asner as iconic American president FDR plays an engagement at the Pasadena Playhouse Oct. 12-Nov. 7, officially re-lighting the venue following the organization's early 2010 bankruptcy filing. The Playhouse is getting back on its feet with a series of productions now through spring 2011.

Emmy Award winner Asner ("Mary Tyler Moore Show," "Lou Grant") stars in the solo play based on Dore Schary's Broadway hit Sunrise at Campobello.

FDR — showing President Franklin Delano Roosevelt reflecting on his years in office, from inauguration and Depression to World War II — is presented by Pasadena Playhouse in association with Campobello Theatre Productions Inc. and Gero Productions LLC. Opening night is Oct. 13.

Coming up at the Playhouse is Tony and Emmy Award winner Leslie Uggams in Leslie Uggams Uptown Downtown, presented by Pasadena Playhouse, in association with The Kelvin-Pratt Corp, Nov. 16-Dec. 12.

Pasadena Playhouse artistic director Epps said in a statement, "My sheer joy at the fact that the Playhouse is resuming what we do best, which is producing great work on the stage, is tremendously heightened by the announcement that these two extraordinary artists will bring their incredible theatrical magic to our theatre. I have known and worked with them both over many years, and have shared a long term and especially rewarding relationship with Leslie at theatres all over the country, including the Playhouse. …Once again, the lights of our theatre will glow, as they have so often in the past, with the tremendous energy that great performers bring to our stage."
