The musical Phantom, with music by Tony Award-winning (Titanic, Nine) Maury Yeston and book and lyrics by Arthur Kopit, will run Sept. 11-21 at the Bucks County Playhouse in New Hope, PA.
Yeston and Kopit's musical version of Gaston Leroux's novel The Phantom of the Opera actually predates Andrew Lloyd Webber's better-known one. Both are based on Leroux's story of a disfigured musical genius who haunts the catacombs beneath the Paris Opera House. However, this version tells of the Phantom's unexpected origin, giving the story an extra, personal twist.
Michele Ferdinand (musical director, BCP) directs an experienced regional cast that features Courtney Parker as Christine Daee and Kyle Gonyea as the Phantom.
