Reefer Madness features a book by Kevin Murphy and Dan Studney with music by Studney and lyrics by Murphy.
Directed by Ilana Ransom Toeplitz, the concerts will feature original cast members Christian Campbell, John Kassir, Harry S. Murphy, Amy Spanger and Robert Torti as well as several guest stars to be announced.
Produced by Shoshana Feinstein, show times for the "4/20 concert event" are April 19 at 11:30 PM and April 20 at 7 PM and 9:30 PM.
Since its original Off-Broadway production in 2001, Reefer Madness has achieved a cult status in the vein of Rocky Horror and Hedwig and the Angry Inch, due in large to the award-winning 2005 Sundance film adaptation.
Inspired by the over-the-top 1936 anti-pot propaganda film of the same name, Reefer Madness, according to press notes, "takes a tongue-in-cheek look at the hysteria caused when clean-cut kids fall prey to marijuana, leading them on a hysterical downward spiral filled with evil jazz music, sex and violence." 54 Below is located at 254 West 54th Street.
