Folk-inspired new musical The Dust Bowl Radio Hour has released a concept album, showcasing the musical with a book and lyrics by Sean McGee and music by Kasey Dillon Yeargain. The album is now available on streaming platforms.
Set in 1930s Oklahoma, the musical follows a young boy whose mother disappeared during the dust storms. A radio host steps up to help him search by sending out stories across the airwaves, and what begins as a desperate broadcast becomes a series of fables that travel farther than the two of them ever expected.
With nine tracks, the bluegrass and folk-inspired album features vocal performances by Kennedy Caughell (Hell’s Kitchen, Wicked), JJ Niemann (Back to the Future, Hamilton), McGee (Jersey Boys), Lucy Rhoades (Mean Girls), Yeargain, Brooke Shapiro (Punk Rock Girl World Premiere), Jeremy Abram (Louis Armstrong: Jazz Ambassador), Christopher James Tamayo (Maybe Happy Ending, Les Miserables), and Riley Thompson. The ensemble includes Brianna Kothari Barnes (Walking with Bubbles), Tre’ Frazier (MJ the Musical), Owen Ing (Mean Girls), Gage Martinez (Basura: A New Musical), Christopher Persichetti, David Socolar (Company, Waitress), and Amy Weaver (Jersey Boys, Mama Mia).
The musical, currently in development, has had presentations both in New York City and at Oklahoma City University.
