While their biggest hit to date, The Guys, runs at their mainstage at The Flea Theater, the Bat Theatre Company will run The Velvet Rut at their downstairs space April 9-20. The production is helmed by associate producer Erik Sniedze.
The Velvet Rut by David Bucci is, as Sniedze described to Playbill On-Line, "a satirical look at being an artist outside of New York." Following 30 different artists, the piece works as a "mockumentary almost along the lines of Richard Linklater's 'Dazed and Confused'," Sniedze added.
The Bat was among the New York City theatres hardest hit by the aftermath of Sept. 11. The company is located in the Flea Theatre on White Street in Tribeca, just blocks from Ground Zero. Sniedze was happy to say that "things are getting back to normal" for the company, no doubt due to the success of Anne Nelson's The Guys, which plays at the theatre starting April 2 for an open-ended run.
Performances of The Velvet Rut will begin at 9PM. Tickets can be purchased by calling (212) 226-2407. For more information on The Bat, visit www.thebat.com.
