I love New York City during the summer. The street fairs, beaches, amusement parks, green parks, dining al fresco, and evenings on the water all equal a world full of vibrancy and fun! Adults and kids of all ages can find incredible things to do in the summertime. But what to choose from and where?
Thanks to Playbill and the all-new Playbill Partner Hotels Booking Engine, I have asked some of my friends on Broadway for their favorite things to do in NYC during the summer season. Check out their recommendations for parks, restaurants, ice cream shops, and other things you can explore and enjoy.
Ali Louis Bourzgui (Hadestown)
“My favorite place in New York in the summer is Little Island. They’re one of the few performance spaces in NYC actually doing the work to create affordable tickets and it’s all outdoors. They curate such a great collection of stellar musicians and new shows; I always leave inspired and thankful to live in NYC.”
Joey Fatone (& Juliet)
“Let’s chat food in NYC. I love going to Whitehorse Tavern for drinks. And if you want a cool atmosphere, Docks Off 5th is a staple. If you want the only place that has Captain Crunch chicken tenders, you have to go to Planet Hollywood. And if you want the best breakfast (with awesome singing waiters), Ellen’s Stardust Diner is your spot!”
Aisha Jackson (The Great Gatsby)
“My summer in New York isn’t complete unless I make at least one trip to Little Island! Their roster of shows is packed with amazing artists and all of their shows in The Glade amphitheatre are free. You can also catch the most spectacular view of the sunset on the Hudson River! It’s truly a magical place! And this year, it is really special to me because I get to produce my very first concert there (Ladies of Jazz premiers July 27th)!”
Lesli Margherita (Gypsy)
“My dog Stewie has a favorite summer spot, so it automatically becomes my favorite spot as well, or I will have no peace. The Loch waterfalls in Central Park are so beautiful. It doesn’t feel like you’re in the city, and it’s a great place to cool down hot paws!”
Tatiana Lofton (Pirates! The Penzance Musical)
“Anita Gelato (Chelsea or Times Square locations) gets me through the summer in NYC. They have super interesting and delicious flavors. It’s a perfect treat at any point of your day!”
There are many additional activities we recommend, hotels to stay at, Broadway shows to see, and world-class dining! Keep checking back monthly as we continue sharing things to do in NYC (and London)!
