Regional News 'No Day But Today': Muny Rent Plays Final Performance August 10

The Pulitzer Prize-winning Jonathan Larson musical began its limited engagement at the St. Louis venue August 4.

The Muny production of Jonathan Larson's Pulitzer Prize-winning Rent ends its limited engagement at the outdoor St. Louis venue August 10. Performances began August 4.

Directed by Lili-Anne Brown, the company is led by Lincoln Clauss as Mark Cohen, Vincent Kempski as Roger Davis, Ashley De La Rosa as Mimi Marquez, Tré Frazier as Benjamin Coffin III, Lindsay Heather Pearce as Maureen Johnson, Anastacia McCleskey as Joanne Jefferson, Evan Tyrone Martin as Tom Collins, and Adrian Villegas as Angel Dumott Schunard.

Ensemble members include Shelby Brown, Ricky Cardenas, Josh Hoon Lee, Sage Lee, Alicia Revé Like, Jhardon DiShon Milton, Eric Shawn, Erica Stephan, and Julia Yameen.

The production also had choreography by Breon Arzell, associate choreography by Carollette Phillips, music direction by Jermaine Hill, scenic design by Arnel Sancianco, costume design by Raquel Adorno, lighting design by Heather Gilbert, sound design by John Shivers and David Patridge, video design by Paul Deziel, and wig design by Rueben D. Echoles, with production stage management by Kelsey Tippins.

Directed by Michael Greif, Rent opened at Broadway's Nederlander Theatre April 29, 1996, following previews that began April 16. The musical received 10 1996 Tony nominations, subsequently winning four, including Best Musical. Larson's work also won the 1996 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. After 16 previews and 5,123 regular performances, the production played its final show September 7, 2008.

Set in Manhattan in the 1990s and inspired by Puccini’s opera La Bohème, the hit musical follows a group of young East Village artists, performers, and philosophers as they struggle through the hardships of poverty, societal discord, and the AIDS epidemic in the search for life, love and art.
