The McCarter Theatre in Princeton, NJ announced preliminary plans to add a 350-seat proscenium "second stage" theater to the south side of the main theatre as well as two rehearsal halls, offices, a lobby, and production support areas. The new theatre will function as a second stage and as the main performance space for Princeton University's Program in Theater and Dance. Princeton will raise funds together with the McCarter Theatre.
Under Artistic Director Emily Mann and Managing Director Jeffrey Woodward, the McCarter Theatre won the Tony Award for Outstanding Regional Theatre in 1994. Past offerings include the world premieres of Mann's Having Our Say and John Henry Redwood's The Old Settler, as well as the American premieres of Athol Fugard's Valley Song and Edward Albee's Marriage Play.
