Casting has been revealed for the Red Bull Theater reading of The Illusion. Mirabelle Ordinaire will direct Ranjit Bolt's version of Corneille's 1635 play, which will premiere for audiences in-person and for online simulcast February 16 at 7:30 PM at L’Alliance New York's Florence Gould Theater. The recording will be available for streaming beginning at 7:30 PM ET February 17 through 11:59 PM ET February 22.
The work focuses on an aging lawyer, longing for his estranged son, who engages a wizard who conjures scenes of romance, adventure, and peril from the younger man’s life. Corneille’s original, (titled L’Illusion Comique) first performed at the Hôtel de Bourgogne in 1636.
The cast will include Keith Hamilton Cobb, Sharlene Cruz, Russell Daniels, Christian DeMarais, Allen Gilmore, Michael Rishawn, Jay O. Sanders, Nik Walker, and Mia Wurgaft.
The special reading production belongs to a series of newly presented works in partnership with Red Bull Theater: the Revelation Readings. Next in the series will be Thomas Middleton and Thomas Decker's The Roaring Girl adapted by Liz Duffy.
