Jeremy Jordan, a Tony Award nominee for his performance as rebellious paperboy Jack Kelly in the Disney musical Newsies, will return to the role for the show to be filmed at a Los Angeles theatre with other members of the original cast. Kara Lindsay will also repeat her role.
Playbill.com has learned that shooting will take place at the Pantages Theatre, where Newsies will stop on tour, in late August/early September. It is expected that some of the original cast will repeat their performances, but the entire original company will not be part of the filmed version.
The production also starred Lindsay, who made her Broadway debut with Newsies, as headstrong female journalist Katherine Plumber, John Dossett as Joseph Pulitzer, Capathia Jenkins as Medda, Ben Fankhauser as Davey, Andrew Keenan-Bolger as Crutchie and Lewis Grosso and Matthew Schechter alternating the role of Les.
(Jordan, Dossett, Lindsay, Fankhauser and Keenan-Bolger all reprised the roles they created in the Paper Mill Playhouse production.)
The production took home 2012 Tony Awards for Best Choreography (Christopher Gattelli) and Best Original Score (Menken and Feldman) and was nominated for Best Actor (Jordan), Best Book (Fierstein), Best Direction (Jeff Calhoun), Best Orchestrations (Daniel Troob), Best Scenic Design (Tobin Ost and Sven Ortel) and Best Musical.
Playbill.com will continue to update.
