Tony, Emmy, and Grammy winner Billy Porter will be honored at New York Stage and Film's 2023 gala, set for November 5 at The Plaza Hotel. Porter has previously worked with the company as an actor, writer, and director, workshopping his works While I Yet Live and Being Alive with the group. The evening will also celebrate GLAAD President and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis for her work supporting diverse storytelling in theatre.
"New York Stage and Film is honored to uplift the indelible impact Billy and Sarah Kate have had on countless lives through their accomplishments and advocacy," says NYSAF Interim Artistic Director Liz Carlson. "Both understand the important role art, entertainment and media can play in shaping individuals, policy, and the course of human history. In a moment when the LGBTQIA+ community is experiencing increasing affronts on their collective humanity, we are proud to recognize Billy and Sarah Kate’s important work."
Proceeds from the evening will support NYSAF's work developing new theatrical works, including the summer season in the Hudson Valley, Filmmakers' Workshop, artist residencies, awards and fellowships, and other opportunities.
The event will begin at 6:30 PM with a VIP reception, followed by a cocktail reception, seated dinner, and tribute performances. Visit NewYorkStageandFilm.org for more information and tickets.
