In a statement released March 21, MSG Entertainment stated that the postponement was the result of additional work being needed on the production.
"Heart and Lights is an exciting new large scale theatrical that features the world-renowned Rockettes, along with several dazzling elements – from groundbreaking technology to state-of-the-art puppetry that brings New York City landmarks to life, including a 26-foot tall Statue of Liberty. It has become clear that additional work is needed to deliver the unforgettable experience our customers have come to expect from us. Taking into account this additional time and not having the dates needed at Radio City in 2014 for the run of the show, we have made the decision to postpone this year’s limited run until 2015," MSG said in a statement.
MSG Entertainment, which had launched a large press campaign for the production, states that it remains committed to bringing Heart and Lights to New York. The limited run was scheduled to open April 3 for a five-week engagement through May 4. All purchases via Ticketmaster will be automatically refunded. All other tickets will be refunded at point of purchase.
The production, helmed by Linda Haberman — director and choreographer of Heart and Lights and the Rockettes — is written by Wright (The Little Mermaid, Grey Gardens, I Am My Own Wife) and features songs arranged and composed by Alex Lacamoire (In the Heights).
Heart and Lights, according to press notes, "celebrates the vibrant, infectious energy of New York City as seen through the eyes of two cousins, who discover their grandmother's surprising past by uncovering the secrets of the city she loved." It promised new Rockettes choreography, dazzling costumes and innovative technology including, 3D effects, elaborate animatronics and GPS elements. Heart and Lights is set to a soundtrack of original music coupled with songs by some of the most influential musical artists of the past 50 years.
The production is planned to incorporate "groundbreaking technology that will immerse audiences in the magic of live theatre in a way only Radio City can deliver."
