The View UpStairs officially opens February 28 Off-Broadway. The new musical, written by Max Vernon and directed by Scott Ebersold, is inspired by one of the most significant, but rarely spoken about attacks against the LGBTQ community that took place in a New Orleans gay bar called The UpStairs Lounge.

Invisible Wall Productions presents the New York premiere, which began performances February 15 at The Lynn Redgrave Theater at Culture Project. The limited engagement is scheduled through May 21.

The cast is made up of Jeremy Pope (Invisible Thread), Taylor Frey (How to Succeed…), Nathan Lee Graham (Priscilla Queen of the Desert), Frenchie Davis (Rent), Benjamin Howes (Scandalous), Michael Longoria (Jersey Boys), Ben Mayne, Nancy Ticotin, Randy Redd (Million Dollar Quartet), Richard E. Waits, and Anthony Alfaro.

Here’s how Invisible Wall Productions outlines the new show: ”The View UpStairs pulls you inside the UpStairs Lounge, a vibrant ‘70s gay bar in the French Quarter of New Orleans. This forgotten community comes to life in all its gritty, glam rock glory when a young fashion designer from 2017 buys the abandoned space, setting off an exhilarating journey of seduction and self-exploration that spans two generations of queer history.”
