Nancy Anderson to Join Spanish Stage Star Joan Vázquez in Stephen Sondheim Salute | Playbill

Cabaret & Concert News Nancy Anderson to Join Spanish Stage Star Joan Vázquez in Stephen Sondheim Salute Something’s Coming will bow September 6 at the Metropolitan Room.

Following a successful July engagement at Feinstein’s/54 Below, Spanish theatre star Joan Vázquez will bring his nightclub show Something’s Coming—A Sondheim Tribute to the Metropolitan Room in Manhattan on September 6.

He will be joined by actor Nancy Anderson, whose Broadway credits include A Class Act, Wonderful Town, and the recent revival of Sunset Boulevard, in which she understudied Glenn Close.

Vázquez—star of Spanish productions of Merrily We Roll Along, Rent, My Fair Lady, Hair, and Mamma Mia!—will again accompany himself and Anderson on the piano singing showtunes by the composer of Sweeney Todd, Company, Into the Woods, A Little Night Music, and more. Vázquez’s playlist includes “Losing My Mind,” “Finishing the Hat,” “Send in the Clowns,” and “Being Alive.” Many of the songs were included on his recent solo album, also titled Something’s Coming.

He debuted the show in 2016 at Teatre Gaudí in Barcelona and Nuevo Teatro Alcalá in Madrid, Spain.

Vázquez explained his fascination with the American songwriter, saying, “Sondheim is my favorite composer since I played Frank in Merrily We Roll Along in Barcelona, and my admiration won’t stop growing. He can take me with just one chord and sometimes with even less. You always know it’s him. His words are beyond. So deep and yet so simple. He’s a wizard.”

Tickets for the 9:30 PM show cost $24 for general seating, up to $435 for a VIP Platinum Package that includes open bar, food, and premium seating for four. Visit MetropolitanRoom.com to order tickets.
