From the Hudson to the East River, the classic arts scene in New York is never quiet. Here is just a sampling of some of the classic arts events happening this week:

A reimagined adaptation of Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro starts performances at Little Island August 30, starring countertenor Anthony Roth Costanzo in all the leading roles. Dustin Willis directs the production, with music direction by Heartbeat Opera’s Dan Schlosberg, who also penned the arrangements for the “90-minute remix.” The production officially opens September 5, and will run through September 22.

Meanwhile, just around the tip of Manhattan, BargeMusic’s Here and Now Labor Day festival runs August 30 through September 1. The floating venue’s annual festival showcases contemporary works, including various New York, U.S., and world premieres. Featured composers this year will include Schott Wheeler, Marty Regan, Daron Hagen, Ken Ueno, Joel Hoffman, and Žilvinas Brazauskas.

The Metropolitan Opera’s Summer HD Festival continues with free screenings on Lincoln Center Plaza every day this week. The selections from the Met’s Live in HD catalog will include Daniel Catán’s Florencia en el Amazonas, Puccini’s La Rondine, Jake Heggie’s Dead Man Walking, Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Anthony Davis’ X: The Life and Times of Malcolm X, Bizet’s Carmen, and Verdi’s La Forza del Destino.

The Queensboro Dance Festival will present Performances at Athens Square, Astoria, August 27. The free event will feature performances from 10 dance companies, including Neela Dance Academy, Barbara Mahler Dances, Cole Collective, and more.

Dancers from the Limón Dance Company will give a free modern dance class the morning of Saturday August 31 on the lawn of Bryant Park. The class is open to all ages and experience levels.
