Earlier this week it was announced that Bacon will star in an adaptation of the short story that also inspired Alfred Hitchcock's thriller "Rear Window," about a wheelchair-bound peeping tom who becomes convinced that he has witnessed a murder.

Based on Cornell Woolrich's 1942 short story "It Had to Be Murder" (also the source material for the 1954 Hitchcock classic), the new Rear Window was written by Keith Reddin and will be directed by Darko Tresnjak, who won the 2014 Tony Award as Best Director of a Musical for his work on A Gentleman's Guide to Love & Murder.

Like that show, Rear Window will debut at Hartford Stage in Hartford, CT, running Oct. 22-Nov. 15.

Tresnjak, who is artistic director of Hartford Stage, issued a press statement saying, “I read Cornell Woolrich's classic crime story...in high school, and it made a lasting impression. I'm thrilled to have an opportunity to direct a stage version 30 years later, when the issues of surveillance and voyeurism have become even more pertinent. Keith Reddin's taut adaptation takes place inside of a sweltering, claustrophobic apartment, very much like the addled brain of the leading character, who will be played by Kevin Bacon. I can't imagine finer collaborators than Kevin and Keith in exploring the terrifying psychological landscape of this timeless thriller.” Bacon made his Broadway debut with Slab Boys in 1983, and returned in 2002 with An Almost Holy Picture. He won an OBIE Award for Forty Deuce. He is a Golden Globe Award winner and Emmy Award nominee whose films include "Footloose," "A Few Good Men," "Apollo 13," "Murder in the First," "JFK," "The Woodsman," "X-Men: First Class," "Sleepers," "The River Wild," and his current work, "Cop Car."
