McCready, the new musical that chronicles the life of country singer Mindy McCready, makes its Off-Broadway debut at The Triad Theater September 8. The show arrives in New York following a successful run at the Hollywood Fringe Festival earlier this year.
Jennifer Blake, who co-wrote the musical with Jon Bernstein, stars as McCready—who had her first no. 1 hit and a best-selling album by the age of 20. Performances run through September 17 at The Triad Theater.
“I grew up in a small town, singing forever,” says Blake in a press statement. “I loved her ambition, her drive—which is a lot of what we are focused on in the show—and her real deep, deep love for the men in her life...A lot of people know the negative parts of her life and there is some of that [in the play] because that’s a large chunk of her life—making not necessarily the best decisions and surrounding herself with not necessarily the best people.”
With direction by Robert Glen Decker, the cast is made up of Blake, Robert Hardin, Craig Umhoefer, Michael Ursu and Zack Cosby.
Tickets are $25 and are available at triadnyc.com or mccready-musical.com. The Triad is located at 158 W. 72nd Street, New York.
