The stage adaptation of Yasushi Inoue's The Hunting Gun will make its U.S. premiere Off-Broadway with a run at Baryshnikov Arts Center. Performances begin March 16, 2023, and run through April 15. Actor-dancer Mikhail Baryshnikov will star in the two-hander opposite Japanese film star Miki Nakatani (Matsuko).

Based on Inoue's 1949 novel, the work tells the story of a hunter who receives letters from his wife, his mistress, and her daughter. As adapted by Serge Lamothe, the stage version features one actor playing all three female characters—press notes describe the play as "a monologue for three voices."

Nakatani continues with the work after making her stage debut in the piece's 2011 premiere at Danièle de Fontenay in Montreal. She won the Kinokuniya Theatre Award for Actress of the Year and Yomiuri Theatre Award for Best Actress for her work in the play when she brought it to Japan's Parco Theatre in Tokyo later the same year, with the production taking Best Theatre Production at both. Nakatani has continued to perform the work as recently as 2016, also in Japan.

Also continuing with the work is director François Girard, who previously helmed the Montreal and Japan bows. Girard has reunited his original creative team, including scenic designer François Séguin, lighting designer David Finn, costume designer Renée April, and composer Alexander MacSween. The U.S. premiere is produced by Emanuela Barilla with Finn and Girard serving as creative producers and Misaki Mouri as co-producer.
