Set in the summer of 1816, April Lavalle's new play is centered around novelist Mary Shelley.

The new play We Shall Be Monsters, penned by April Lavalle, will be showcased in an invitation-only reading June 27 in Manhattan. Melissa Crespo will direct. 

The cast will feature Midori Francis (Usual Girls), Andrew Barth Feldman (Little Shop of Horrors), Andy Mientus (Spring Awakening), Helen J Shen (The Lonely Few), and Scott Redmond (Oklahoma!). Alex Boniello (Dear Evan Hansen) will read stage directions.

Set in the summer of 1816, We Shall Be Monsters speculates what might have happened when novelist Mary Shelley was stuck inside for a summer with her married lover Percy (who had slept with her stepsister), her stepsister Claire (who was seducing the famous poet Lord Byron), Lord Byron (who was torturing the physician Dr. Polidori), and Dr. Polidori. 

Howard Alter and Allie Kench of Happy Recap Productions serve as producers.
