Grammy and Academy Award-winning singer-songwriter Melissa Etheridge is writing the score for a stage adaptation of the 1988 film Mystic Pizza, about three young women working as waitresses at a local pizza parlor in Mystic, Connecticut. Julia Roberts and Matt Damon starred in the film.
Etheridge’s collaborators on the film are book writers Gordon Greenberg (Holiday Inn, Jacques Brel) and Sas Goldberg (Significant Other). Greenberg will also direct. Their work will be based on the original screenplay by Amy Holden Jones.
Production plans and a timeline have not been announced. The stage production is being developed by Concord Theatricals.
