Tony winner Matthew López’s play about loneliness and longing, Reverberation, will make its European premiere at the Bristol Old Vic this fall. Directed by Jack Sain, performances will begin October 2 prior to an official opening October 8 for a limited engagement through November 2.

López wrote Reverberation three years prior to The Inheritance, which premiered at the Young Vic in 2018, before transferring to the West End and subsequently Broadway. Reverberation was originally staged at Connecticut's Hartford Stage in 2015. Reshaped by López, this new production transposes the action across the Atlantic to London. Casting will be announced at a later date.

The play follows Jonathan, who has withdrawn from the world after a personal tragedy. When the enigmatic Claire moves into the flat upstairs, she tries to coax him out of his shell. They form a connection, but the past eventually reverberates into the present, threatening the happiness they’ve found.

In a statement director Sain, who will be making his Bristol Old Vic debut, says, "Reverberation is a unique piece of writing: at times tender, at others visceral; at times hilarious, at others disconcerting. It is a play about lost souls finding each other in the dark, about loneliness and longing, comfort and denial. I’m grateful to Matthew for entrusting us with it, for shaping it for a new era, and for this beautiful theatre. We look forward to showing you what we have in store.”

The upcoming production will also have design by Ti Green, sound design by Nicola T Chang, lighting design by Robbie Butler, video design by Daniel Denton, and intimacy coordination by Robbie Taylor Hunt.
