Casting is complete for Goodspeed Musicals' upcoming production of the Tony-winning Rupert Holmes musical whodunit, The Mystery of Edwin Drood.
Directed by Rob Ruggiero with choreography by James Gray, the musical that lets the audience vote on the culprit will play the East Haddam, Connecticut, venue April 5-June 2.
The cast will be led by Lenny Wolpe (Bullets Over Broadway, Wicked) as Chairman/William Cartwright, Liz McCartney (Funny Girl, My Fair Lady) as Princess Puffer/Angela Prysock, Mamie Parris (Cats, School of Rock) as Edwin Drood/Alice Nutting, Paul Adam Schaefer (Phantom of the Opera) as Jasper/Clive Paget, Levin Valayil as Neville Landless/Victor Grinstead, Riley Noland as Rosa Bud/Deidre Peregrine, Jetta Juriansz as Helena Landless/Janet Conover, Paul Slade Smith (Finding Neverland, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) as Crisparkle/Cedric Moncrieff, David Beach (Something Rotten, It’s Only A Play) as Durdles/Master Nick Cricker, Marcus Montgomery as Deputy/Mister Nick Cricker, and Jamie LaVerdiere (The Producers, The Pirate Queen) as Bazzard/Phillip Bax.
The ensemble will feature Jon Cooper, Benjamin Howes (Scandalous, Mary Poppins), Albert Jennings (Aladdin), Miyuki Miyagi, Jacqueline Petroccia, Jesse Swimm (School of Rock, Mary Poppins), and Natalie Welch with swings Megan Arseneau and Noah Ruebeck.
Based on an unfinished Charles Dickens novel, The Mystery of Edwin Drood has a book, music, lyrics, and original orchestrations by Rupert Holmes. The original Broadway production was nominated for nine Tony Awards and won five, including Best Musical. The December 1985 opening-night cast included Betty Buckley, George Rose, Cleo Laine, Howard McGillin, Donna Murphy, Judy Kuhn, and Rob Marshall.
The upcoming production will also have musical direction by Adam Souza, scenic design by Ann Beyersdorfer, costume design by Hunter Kaczorowski, lighting design by Rob Denton, sound design by Jay Hilton, hair and wig design by Tommy Kurzman, and orchestrations by Christopher Jahnke.
