The Public Theater celebrates the world-premiere opening of Mlima’s Tale, a new play by two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Lynn Nottage, April 15. Tony nominee Sahr Ngaujah (Fela!) stars as Mlima, an elephant trapped inside the ivory business.

Performances of Mlima's Tale began March 27.

Obie Award winner Jo Bonney directs an ensemble cast made up of Ito Aghayere (Junk), Jojo Gonzalez (Small Mouth Sounds), and Kevin Mambo (The Fortress of Solitude).

Following a trail of greed and desire, Mlima takes the audience on a journey through memory and fear, history and tradition, and want and need.

The Off-Broadway production is scheduled through May 20 in The Public’s Martinson Hall.
