Directed by ensemble member Eric Burgher, Hellcab will officially open Nov. 12. The engagement runs through Jan. 11, 2016, at The Main Stage and features a cast of 34 Chicago actors. Here's how the show is billed: "During the longest night of his life, a cab driver transports a bizarre and mysterious array of customers through the gritty streets of Chicago. Kern draws from personal experience as a former cabbie to create this alternately frightening, hilarious and poignant journey. Throughout his long shift, the eclectic collection of passengers includes a trio of drug-addicts, a born-again couple, a smug lawyer, and a randy duo on their way to a motel. Set during a bitter cold Christmas Eve, Hellcab presents a rear-view image mirroring the passing parade of humanity."
Hellcab was first staged by Famous Door Theatre in 1992, where it was originally scheduled to run for 12 performances only. The play ran for over nine years and was adapted into a film in 1997 titled "Chicago Cab," starring Paul Dillon, John Cusack, Gillian Anderson and Laurie Metcalf, among others.
The Main Stage is located at 139 N. Broadway, Chicago. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit ProfilesTheatre.org.
