The recent rumors that the Tony Award-winning musical Contact will open in London in October have been confirmed. Contact will make its long-awaited London premiere on October 23 at the Queens Theatre, shortly after it finishes a two-and-a-half year run on Broadway. The Susan Stroman-John Weidman musical, which will be produced in London by Michael White and Stage Holding, marks Stroman's West End directorial debut. Stroman, however, has choreographed London musicals, including the Royal National Theatre's revival of Oklahoma!, which recently made its Broadway debut and has been nominated for seven Tony Awards. No word on casting yet for the musical that is divided into three sections: "Swinging," "Did You Move?" and "Contact."
Contact officially opened on Broadway on March 30, 2000. The dance musical with a recorded soundtrack won a Tony for Best Musical as well as awards for its original stars, Boyd Gaines and Karen Ziemba, and choreographer Stroman. Variety has reported that Stroman intends to make her film directing debut with an adaptation of Contact.
