News Liza Minnelli On the Mend and Back On Stage Tony and Academy Award-winning actress Liza Minnelli, who underwent back surgery earlier this year, made a return to the stage to perform at Cortés Alexander's annual holiday show at Sterlings Upstairs at the Federal, according to the New York Post.

Minnelli, who has been recovering in Los Angeles following surgery to fuse a broken lower back, surprised friends and fans with a special performance of "I Love a Violin," originally written by her godmother, Kay Thompson

"She's doing really well and looking forward to celebrating the holidays," a representative for Minnelli told Playbill.com.

Liza Minnelli won Tony Awards for her performances in Flora, The Red Menace; and The Act. She also received a 1974 Special Tony Award for "adding lustre to the Broadway season."
