Tony-winning playwright Stephen Karam has more up his sleeve. Not only is his writing worth of a Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize finalist recognition, he can write music, too. For the upcoming film version of his Speech & Debate, Karam penned music and lyrics for songs in his character’s fictional musical.
Based on Arthur Miller’s The Crucible, Diwata, played by Sarah Steele, writes her own musical: Crucible!
Listen to the clips below from four songs in her show, sung by Steele, Spring Awakening’s Austin P. McKenzie, and Tony winner Kristin Chenoweth.
1) “More Weight” - by Sarah Steele
2) “Hold It In” – Sarah Steele & Austin P. McKenzie
